Knowledge & Outputs

Does your university stand out from the crowd?
Find out by using the Enterprising Universities ‘Distinct Tool’. Click here.

An integral part of the ‘Leading, Governing and Managing Enterprising Universities’ project is to provide knowledge and outputs that benefit the higher education sector and its relevant stakeholders.

We have developed a suite of resources aimed at: 1) understanding the state of the higher education sector; 2) understanding how an enterprise approach is being utilised by forward thinking institutions across England; 3) providing interested institutions with advice on stakeholder engagement models to support, maintain and develop distinctiveness through enterprise.

Output 1: Understanding the higher education landscape - the red and blue ocean.

Based on an analysis of 128 mission statements, we have mapped the higher education sector in England to understand how institutions are positioning themselves in the market. The analysis and resulting (proportional) map shows there are clear areas of distinctiveness being developed by both individual and groups of institutions (the blue ocean), whilst the majority show similarities in the form of multi-faceted non-distinct missions (the red ocean). Output 2: Data resource.

Data on the higher education sector is now ever more important, with students, universities themselves, and vested stakeholders seeking information to inform their educational investment or performance against national trends. This downloadable data resource tool amalgamates data from a range of providers and sources such as HEBCIS and the DLHE survey, allowing users to compare institutions, mission groups or user defined groups of universities. Output 3: Institutional case studies.

Working with our partners, we have identified a number of models and processes that exemplify a commitment to embedding enterprise at their respective institutions. Access and read more about the institutional case studies here...

Output 4: Best practice toolkits - stakeholder engagement in an enterprise/business engaged market space.

Drawing on a wealth of information gathered during study visits with our partner institutions, the following downloadable report provides real insights on maximising opportunities offered by effective engagement with internal and external stakeholders. Access the report here...
